Scratch Live Pitch Internal Mode

When using Serato Scratch Live, proprietary Serato Audio Research drivers are used in place of Rane ASIO (Windows) and Core Audio (Mac) drivers. These Rane drivers are used when Scratch Live is not running. The Control Panel for the installed driver is shown above.

Designed by Numark in collaboration with Serato, NS7FX represents the pinnacle of digital DJ performance. NS7FX combines a premium mixer with two motorized, adjustable-torque turntables, real vinyl, and a professional audio interface to deliver a complete performance solution that will satisfy the most hardcore turntablist. NS7FX also includes powerful effects controls for hands-on manipulation of the wide range of effects built into the included Serato ITCH software.

A full complement of premium faders, knobs, buttons, and our new Strip Search virtual needle-drop control integrates seamlessly with ITCH. NS7FX exchanges turntable and control information with your Mac or PC at more than ten times standard MIDI resolution, resulting in a rock-solid hardware/software system that feels and as good as it looks.

You want the feel of real decks and vinyl. You want the power and flexibility of a computer-based DJ system. You need NS7FX.

DEVELOPED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SERATO

NS7FX was a collaborative development effort with Serato to develop the finest computer-DJ experience. It is a one-to-one hands-on control instrument for Serato ITCH.

Because it was designed for ITCH, NS7FX setup time is the bare minimum. No tweaking, no mapping; just plug and perform.

PERFECT FEEL

Forget your experiences with other controllers. NS7FX has two seven-inch, motorized, high-torque aluminum turntable platters. The turntable controls feature modern and classic settings that alter the feel to model the feel you prefer. Seven-inch, legit vinyl records with 45RPM adapters sit on real slipmats. There’s no simulation here – NS7 is the real deal.

Solid, rugged, rubberized buttons and knobs compliment a high precision, replaceable CP-PRO crossfader and D-TYPE line faders for an unquestionably high-quality feel. We selected the CP-PRO digital-VCA crossfader because it is outstandingly durable with low wear for a long life. It has a solid feel that is smooth and rigid. It’s only natural that our finest crossfader is a component of our finest controller. We selected high-performance, D-Type digital-VCA line faders for their rugged, long-life performance. Like the crossfader, the line faders are replaceable. The crossfader offers contour adjust and reverse adjustment, enabling you to customize its operation.

SYSTEM SIMPLICITY

Forget the mouse. Forget the keyboard. NS7FX renders ITCH software perfectly simple to operate, with its click knob and large, backlit buttons navigating though your music library. You’ll spend less time looking at the screen and more time enjoying performing thanks to the visual feedback you get from NS7FX’s more-than 100 LEDs and more-than 100 hands-on controls.

NS7FX has onboard audio outputs so it’s the only piece of gear you need to connect to the PA system or powered speakers. NS7FX outputs 24-bit, 44.1 kHz digital audio to the sound system on XLRs and RCAs. The front panel contains mic input, RCA line input, and both 1/4' and 1/8” headphone outputs with volume control.

NS7FX comes with an integrated laptop stand that supplies safe, secure mounting for your laptop. How to edit itunes song in garageband on ipad. You can use an ultra-small space because NS7FX elevates your laptop off the table. The NSFX effect controller mounts conveniently on the laptop stand for integrated effects control without taking up any additional space in your setup.

PRECISION CONTROL

NS7FX sends control information over USB at more than ten times the standard MIDI rate. This innovative communication technique yields extremely high-precision, low-latency control.

There’s nothing like dropping the needle on a record for quickly locating a point in the track. We took that idea and developed our own modern take on it with Strip Search, the unique virtual-needle-drop touch strip. You can locate a point instantly within the track using the on-screen waveform and Strip Search.

Scratch Live Pitch Internal Models

Five hot-cue-assign buttons on each deck digitally mark your cues on the track. These marker points are recallable in ITCH and Scratch LIVE, and you can load Scratch LIVE cue points in ITCH.

We developed an extensive Serato-style loop section on each deck for creative remix capabilities. You can choose between manual and auto-loop functions and an automatic BPM analyzer further assists loop makers. Creating automatic smart loops of any measure length is a breeze, and you can mutilate and modify to heart’s content with a variety of controls such as Doubling, Halving, Shift, and manual controls. Multiple loop banks per deck make NS7FX a great choice for scratch and club DJs alike.

Beat matching is straight ahead with 100mm, smooth, stiff pitch sliders and plus and minus buttons, by popular request, for bending. There’s a zero-point LED, so it’s easy to know when you’re in the middle.

AUDIO QUALITY

We took extraordinary care in selecting the components of the audio signal chain. NS7FX contains a host of professional audio connectors and a multichannel, 24-bit USB digital-audio interface.

The high-definition post-mix analog audio output features a minimized circuit path with containing only one audiophile-grade bipolar capacitor. This optimized design maximizes phase coherence, ensuring that audio is tight and punchy.

Live

PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE

NS7FX’s dual decks flank the mixer section. Its recognizable, professional appearance is supported by clean design in matte and glossy black. The entire unit is housed in a heavy-gauge, industrial-strength metal casing that is ready for the torture of travel.

SERATO ITCH SOFTWARE

Serato ITCH is already familiar if you use Scratch LIVE. The new program builds on Scratch LIVE’s popularity and adds some key, new features. ITCH doesn’t require a timecode interface, so the system can be as simple as, say, NS7FX and your computer! Since ITCH makes timecode a thing of the past, you won’t need to worry about needles skipping or vinyl wearing out. You can load your Scratch LIVE crates, loops, presets, and cue points seamlessly in ITCH. NS7FX also works with most other MIDI DJ software and supports iTunes.

ITCH is a high-performance portable music system with internal mixing and platter-style playback control. Because it is designed specifically for use with hardware control, ITCH has a clean information display.

ITCH handles audio processing and mixing including channel fading, EQ, crossfading and track trim are processed for outstanding control and management of your tracks, ease of recording your set, clip-proof gain management, and BPM calculation using the power of your computer’s processor.

Scratch

Serato's unique color waveforms provide an easy identification of sound and changes in the track. ITCH can set and store cue-points. It offers three-range pitch control: ±8%, ±16%, and ±50% with Key Lock for manipulation of pitch and tempo independently.

ITCH has library management tools for backup and restoring your music. Advanced input and mix recording capabilities include recording your mix or just the aux input for sampling. The software supports AIFF, WAV, MP3, and AAC audio files.

The History function in ITCH keeps a comprehensive record of every track played and exports sessions from your history to 'txt', 'csv', or 'm3u'. ITCH also has a Loop Roll function that provides a looping effect where the playhead jumps back to normal time when you release the loop. Built-in key support ensures that ITCH reads key tags from MP3 files and displays them in the 'key' column in your library.

That being said, if there is anything about GarageBand that I don’t like, it is the sustain pedal glitch. /how-to-download-sound-from-garageband.html. It’s the only thing I would consider to be a flaw that truly compromises the effectiveness of the app. When adding/deleting/edited the lengths of sustains on music (particularly piano, as that is what I work with most often), I’ve frequently ran into a myriad of recurring issues; sometimes a sustain will still play even after it’s been deleted, or after shortening a sustain pedal it will still play at its original length. All in all, however much I dislike the issues with the usage of the sustain pedal feature, any grievance I have with that is dwarfed by my admiration of this app and my appreciation of the undoubtably talented people who put energy into making music so easy. Although not everything about it is completely obvious, it is absolutely worth it to spend time playing around with and discovering new tricks and settings, that aid or streamline the music writing process.

Scratch Live version 1.4

We recommend this upgrade for all users. Scratch Live version 1.4 has a vastly improved Internal mode, modeled on a DJ style CD player. This version of Scratch Live supports the new MP 4 USB mixer from Rane. Note that the MP 4 does not support external control via vinyl.
Mixing with the SL 1 in Internal mode
Internal mode now has two pitch sliders, a large slider for making coarse pitch changes, and a small slider for making fine pitch adjustments. You can start and pause playback both forwards and backwards. The new pitch bend function makes temporary adjustments to the pitch, allowing you to align to two tracks that are playing at the same speed but are out of time.
The new controls above the Virtual Deck are, from left to right;
Rewind
Bend down
Play / pause backwards
Play / pause forwards
Bend up
Fast forward
You can make small pitch adjustments by clicking above or below the large pitch slider, and bend by clicking on either side of the small pitch slider. You can set the playback speed using the buttons under the cue points – half speed, 33/45 (45 rpm record playing at 33), normal speed, 45/33 (33rpm record playing at 45), or double speed. The internal mode now uses a finer resolution for the pitch display - 2 decimal places instead of 1.
There is a new temporary cue point that behaves like the 'Cue' button on a CD player. Press alt-I to set this temporary cue point for the left virtual deck, and alt-K to set it for the right Virtual Deck. You can jump to the temporary cue point by pressing I for the left Virtual Deck and K for the right Virtual Deck. The temporary cue point is not saved with the file, and defaults to the beginning of the track if it has not been set elsewhere – so this can also be used to jump to the beginning of the track. For MP 4 users, pressing the fader button sets this cue point to the current location. Moving the MP 4's fader to full cut for that deck will pause the track at the trigger point. Moving the fader away from full cut will start playback.
You can adjust the braking speed of the pause feature in the setup screen. This will set the pause from an instant stop to a gradual slow down, like a turntable power-down.
There are new keyboard shortcuts (cue keys) to go with the new playback controls. These keyboard shortcuts use the first two rows of letter keys on your keyboard, irrespective of the letters printed on them. For example, on a US keyboard the cue keys are QWERTYUI and ASDFGHJK, but on a French keyboard the cue keys are AZERTYUI and QSDFGHJK. The keyboard shortcuts on a US keyboard are:
Left Virtual Deck
Q – play / pause backwards
W- play / pause forwards
E – decrease pitch
R – increase pitch
T – pitch bend down
Y – pitch bend up
U – censor
I – jump to temp. cue point (alt I to set)
alt Q – Previous track
alt W – Next track
alt E – rewind
alt R – fast forward
Right Virtual Deck
A – play / pause backwards
S - play / pause forwards
D – decrease pitch
F – increase pitch
G – pitch bend down
H – pitch bend up
J – censor
K – jump to temp. cue point (alt K to set)
alt A – Previous track
alt S – Next track
alt D – rewind
alt F – fast forward
Since many of these functions could accidentally disrupt a mix, you have the option of requiring the shift key to be held down or caps lock enabled. See cue keys use shift in the setup screen.
Other improvements
The new censor function can be used in Internal and Relative modes. The censor button will temporarily reverse the playback direction – when you release the censor button, play will resume from the position you would have been in if you had not pressed the button. Use the censor button to ‘mask’ parts of the track, for example to remove bad language, or for effect.
Markers are now called cue points, and are visible in the main waveform display. There is now a single button to set a new cue point, and x buttons to remove each cue point. The layout of the virtual deck has changed: The icon on the top left is the label color (click to change the color of the label of the loaded track), on the top right is the repeat button, bottom left is the censor button, and bottom right is the eject button.
The tracking display is now a horizontal line just above the mode buttons. The total length of the line represents the speed of the record. The red portion indicates when parts of the record could not be identified, due to dust, scratches, record burn etc. A lot of red means bad tracking. Note that it is normal for the light to be red when cuing or scratching. If you are getting a lot of red when you are just playing the control record (not scratching), make sure that your needles are clean, and check the calibration in the setup screen.
There is a new autoplay feature, which is available in Relative and Absolute modes. When autoplay is enabled, the next track will start automatically when the current track finishes. You can skip through your library using the next and previous buttons. When you load a track, the Virtual Deck remembers which crate or library it came from. If autoplay is on, the next track from that crate or library will be loaded. To change which crate is being used as a playlist without affecting the currently playing song, drag the crate icon on to the Virtual Deck.
Ogg Vorbis file format is now supported on both Mac and PC
There is now a full list of all the keyboard shortcuts available via the tool tips. Click on the ? button to enable tool tips. Move you mouse over any other item to see information about that item.
The track start offset can now be set to anywhere in the first 11 minutes. Use the knob on the left to set the minute, and the knob on the right to set the number of individual rotations. The resulting start offset is printed next to the knobs.
The overviews are now brighter. You can rebuild all the overviews your library by holding the ctrl key and clicking the build overviews button that appears when no USB interface is connected. You can now select a group of tracks and drag them onto the build overviews button to build overviews for just those tracks. Note: Because version 1.4 uses a new overview format, when you click on the build overviews button, it will start rebuilding all your overviews. However, you do not need to rebuild every overview before you start using this version, the old overviews are still there. When you load a track in version 1.4, the new overview will replace the old overview as you play.
Version 1.4 does not attempt to modify read only files. Any changes (for example building overviews, editing tags and adding cue points) will not be saved when you unload the file. Read only files have a padlock icon in the status column.
Both the pitch and BPM are now shown on the virtual deck – the control vinyl version has been moved to the to left corner of the scope view in the setup screen.
You can now save mic recordings that you have loaded straight to deck. If you have loaded a mic recording without first saving it, first stop playback, then enter a name and click the save button. It is important to stop playback, as the track will be very quickly unloaded and reloaded and you will hear a gap in the audio. In 1.4 clicking on other buttons on the GUI does not stop the mic recording.
You can now select multiple tracks by holding down the shift key and pressing the up or down arrows, and the ‘click’ that was sometimes heard when jumping to cue points has been removed.
The sound quality has been improved, by reducing undesirable modulation of playback by control signal. This will make improvements to issues raised here and here
If you enter 'emergency Internal mode' (that is entering Internal mode because you run out of control vinyl / CD) and you place the needle at the beginning of the track, or go back to the beginning of track on on CDs, Scratch Live will automatically switch to Relative mode.
Scratch Live version 1.4 is fully compatible with Mac OS X 1.4 (Tiger)
If you have any questions about Scratch Live version 1.4, please post them in the Help area.
