Virtual Dj Beat Grid

Beatgrids can be really important and helpful when DJing on Serato DJ. It can help with setting hot cues & auto loops correctly, and syncing & beatmatching tracks together. Beginner DJs, this can be very helpful once you begin building your library with transition tracks or songs with multiple BPMs throughout the track.

  1. Sbangs PRO Infinity Member since 2004 it makes beats the rows and colluns are for choosing the pattern of the beats it works similar to a drum machine. It follows the grids pattern when you start the plugin you get one 4 beat loop. Unless you choose one of the repeat options on the right for a longer loop.
  2. NetGeek PRO Infinity Member since 2004.From a thread in the General Discussion, this is a request to enable modification of the Beat Grid in the Rhythm Window. This would enable us to quickly drag the grid to the appropriate place on the waveform.

Here’s a walk through beatgridding on Serato DJ while on offline mode with a transition track that goes from 83 BPM to 100 BPM mid-way into the song.

Jul 17, 2013  How to use Virtual DJ - Editing the BPM Grid. Sometimes Virtual DJ (or any software) makes a mistake and cannot properly analyse a song. The problem with most so.

When offline in Serato DJ you will see ‘Edit Grid’ below the track title towards the right, here in blue.

When you select ‘Edit Grid,’ a bunch of commands and options open up below the waveform of the track.

To begin, you could click on ‘Set’ or press the ‘X’ key on the first beat, marking the down beat. A red line will appear indicating that you have down so. Serato recognizes that the beginning of the song is at 83 BPM. However, about 20 bars into the song, the grid seems to slip away from the down beat, showing a shift in the tempo.

Find the down beat and press ‘Select’ or the ‘X’ key again to mark the down beat at the new tempo. The mark will turn red to indicate that you have down so once again.

Using the right and left arrow keys, you can adjust the grid to the correct BPM. The grid lines should shift to where they mark the correct down beats.

As you shift the grid around you will notice that the BPM of the track on Serato will adjust as you are moving your keys in real time. Once you adjust your grid, Serato will recognize this part of the song at the now correct BPM. Now, after the transition, the song is no longer playing at 83 BPM, but instead 100 BPM.

As long as the track does not change tempo again, the grid should typically remain consistent for the rest of the song. However, it does not hurt to pick a random part of the song to check if the grid slips off even a little! Here, at around 60 bars into the song, the grid begins to slip again.

So repeat the marking process to make sure everything is nice and tight throughout the entire track.

Now the transition track is perfectly gridded and ready to be played at my next gig! Make sure you press the ‘Save’ button to set the gridding on the track!
